Gotham, here we come!
Er... I mean, here we are. I mean, we're only a few miles on the outskirts, so....
Yeah, whatever. Mom's been driving the last, like, fifty miles 'cause Dad conked out. Still won't let me have a chance at the wheel- I mean, c'mon, who cares if I don't have the right class license? It's not like anybody's gonna pull over a convoy of carnies.
I think we're scheduled to set up in Gotham's fair grounds tonight, and fire it all up tomorrow. It'll give Mom, Dad, and me a chance to practice that opening. That opening. The crazy one. Dad always says you have to make an impression on the city, though Mom always says that there's never enough people the first day to make a good one.
Anyway, I won't get to see my report card 'til we set up a PO box, since we left Evanston before they got the grading done. And that means I won't get to figure out whether or not I'll get that movie night I was promised 'til after Mom sets it up, calls the secretary's office, and has my grades sent out. Man, we might be out of Gotham before that! Screwby.
I wonder if Haly will be letting people from the city drop by, see us practice. Probably not the yokels, but I guess he likes letting the important people know we're not a 'bad influence' on the city, like the whacko paper said a few towns back. I still have nightmares about people hanging out around the tents after we've shut up and gone to bed. Brr.
Mom's calling, gotta get into my warm up crud... |
